The 42nd Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Scientific studies on Cultural Properties

Two TranSEHA Working Groups held at the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Scientific studies on Cultural Properties

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, two TranSEHA-related working groups were held at Kyushu University’s Ito Campus during the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Scientific studies on Cultural Properties.

WG-2: “Contributions of Geoscientific Methods to Cultural Property Science”

Organizers: Tadahiro Hatakeyama, Yoshinao Shimooka, Naoya Obata, Tatsuro Adachi, Kazunori Misaka, Yu Kitahara, Chie Kato

In the field of cultural property science, a wide range of geoscientific methods are employed, and many researchers are engaged in studies that span both domains. This working group was convened with the aim of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers specializing in methods such as paleomagnetism, luminescence, and mineralogy. At the conclusion of the session, the objectives and activities of the TranSEHA “Archaeomagnetism Group” were introduced.

WG-3: “TranSEHA Transdisciplinary Network – Cataclysmic Disasters and Dating Group”

Organizers: Masataka Hakozaki, Minoru Sakamoto, Masayo Minami

The “Cataclysmic Disasters and Dating Group” promotes research that provides highly precise and accurate chronologies for cultural properties, cataclysmic disasters, and solar flares, using techniques such as radiocarbon spike matching and oxygen isotope dendrochronology. In this working group, Minami first outlined the overall objectives and mission of the TranSEHA hub, followed by Hakozaki and Hiramine, who presented the group’s achievements to date and its future prospects.
