Five TranSEHA Researchers Give Invited Talks at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Japan Association for Quaternary Research
From August 20 to 22, 2026, the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Japan Association for Quaternary Research was held at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Tsukuba.
This year’s meeting marked the 70th anniversary of the Association, and all oral presentations in the symposium were given as invited talks.
Symposium was organized around five themes: “Climate Change and Ocean Processes,” “Terrestrial Processes,” “Stratigraphy and Chronological Frameworks,” “Humans and the Biosphere,” and “Quaternary Science and Contemporary Society.”
A wide range of discussions took place on the current state of research and future perspectives across the various fields of Quaternary science.
At the symposium, five members of the Catastrophic Disasters and Dating Group—Prof. Mitsuru Okuno (Osaka Metropolitan University), Visiting Prof. Katsuhiko Kimura (Fukushima University), Assoc. Prof. Masaki Sano (Rikkyo University), Asst. Prof. Tetsuya Shinozaki (Chuo University), and Specially Appointed Researcher Reona Hiramine (National Museum of Japanese History)—presented their research on topics including chronology and climate reconstruction using tree-ring oxygen isotope ratios, as well as terrestrial processes associated with tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.
Five researchers from the Catastrophic Disasters and Dating Group of TranSEHA gave invited talks, providing an excellent opportunity to widely disseminate their research findings on chronological studies, paleoclimate reconstruction, and the investigation of past catastrophic disasters.
